Implant Surgery
Stage 1 The first stage of your implant treatment is the placement of a small titanium post into the jawbone. This acts as the artificial root onto which your final crown or restoration will eventually be secured. It sounds more daunting than it is — the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and most patients are surprised by how comfortable the experience is.
The appointment typically takes between one and two hours depending on how many implants are being placed. You'll be fully numb throughout, and we'll make sure you're comfortable before we begin.
After placement there is a healing period of between eight and twelve weeks, during which the implant fuses with the surrounding bone — a process called osseointegration. This is what gives the implant its long-term stability and strength. During this period a temporary restoration can usually be provided so you're never without a tooth.
Once healing is confirmed we'll move to Stage 2 — the fitting of your permanent crown.
