Crown Fitting
A crown is a precision-made cap that fits over a damaged, weakened or heavily restored tooth, restoring it to its original shape, size and function. Crowns are one of the most common and reliable restorations in dentistry — when placed correctly, they can last for many years with normal care.
You may have been recommended a crown for a number of reasons — a tooth that has cracked, one that has had a large filling, a tooth that has been root treated and needs protecting, or simply one that has deteriorated to the point where a filling is no longer the right solution.
Your crown will have been made by a dental laboratory to match the shape and shade of your surrounding teeth as closely as possible. The fitting appointment involves removing a small amount of tooth structure to create space, taking impressions or a digital scan, and — where a same-day crown is available — fitting it in a single visit. In other cases a temporary crown is placed while your permanent one is made, with a second appointment to fit it.
The result is a tooth that looks natural, feels comfortable and functions exactly as it should.
